What the document holds

Housing Ministry press release (9 Apr 2024) on abolishing real-estate golden visas. Existing: 14,576 golden visas 2013-2023, files and investment by year of decision 2016-Jan 2024, 424 to February 2024. Added: average investment per file for every row of the table (10 rows) and January 2024 investment; six provinces' 90% share; peak shares of home sales linked to Ley 14/2013 investment in Marbella (7.1%) and Barcelona (5.3%), year not stated; '94 of every 100' golden visas linked to real estate. The table's year rows add up to its totals. Not recorded: the main nationalities and provinces are listed without numbers; the 2,017 (2022) and 3,273 (2023) in the minister's quote repeat the table; rule descriptions (EUR 500,000; '5-year' validity renewable by five years) restate the law, already recorded from the BOE. Rules restated from other sources are now recorded from this document too (decision 8).

About the document

What it covers 14,576 'Golden Visa' linked to real estate 2013-2023; table of files (expedientes) resolved per year 2016 - 31 Jan 2024 with total and average investment; main nationalities and provinces.

Notes Press release. The Housing Ministry says it worked with data from the Economy and Inclusion ministries but does not define its counts. Its figures are much higher than the Foreign Ministry's consular visa counts given to Parliament (e.g. 2,017 vs 451 for 2022), which suggests they include in-country authorisations, renewals and/or family members; not explained in the source.
