What the document holds

Guatemala's residence regulation (Acuerdo IGM-016-2025, signed 21 May 2025, approved by AMN-05-2025): general rules for temporary and permanent residence, requirements by category (migrant workers with income tests of US$2,000/3,000 a month, students, artists, investors with US$100,000 (art. 17-18), researchers, clergy, refugees), permanent residence routes (five years' temporary residence, marriage, family, Central Americans, rentistas and pensioners with US$1,250 a month plus US$300 per dependant), cancellation, revocation, registration, rights and obligations, absences, document rules, repeal of IGM-092-2022. Earlier pass: investor amount, residence periods, five-year permanent residence and the signing event. This pass added 10 general rules that apply to investor residents (minimum one-year permit; 30-day renewal deadline and window; two-year police-certificate period; loss of residence after more than one year's unauthorised absence; six-month document age; 30-day registration and cure deadlines; 90-day visa while pending; archiving after six months' inactivity) and 1 event (repeal of the 2022 regulation). Checked and out of scope: the rentista/pensionado category (it rests on a monthly income from pensions, deposits or investments abroad, with no investment in Guatemala; decision 15) and the migrant-worker income tests. Investor dependants follow the migrant-worker rules, which state no ages or amounts.
